According to data from the Directorate of Processing and Marketing of Horticultural Products, Ministry of Agriculture, chili consumption needs reach 254,670 tons per month. In contrast, chili production was 281,712 tons and produced a surplus of 27,042 tons.
The high demand for chili increases the driving force of the community, especially farmers, to engage in chili cultivation. Additionally, an easy method, a high level of productivity, and a relatively short time are indeed advantages in chili cultivation in Indonesia.
If public demand does not follow high chili production at a certain time, it can cause chili prices to fall. Furthermore, the characteristics of easily damaged or rotten chilies can cause price fluctuations and create a scarcity of chilies on the market.
